I’ve learned people change. Lives diverge. Friendships melt away.
But those truest to you will always be there and can be counted on.
No matter what.
“Instructions for living a life.
Tell about it." - Mary Oliver
I’ve learned that I am very excited to see my friends when I go back, but very nervous about what the summer has changed.
I don’t want everything to fall apart when it’s just all fallen back together.
Some people say that we’re “generation screwed.”
Some say that we face insurmountable hurdles, left behind as the price of our parent’s prosperity.
Some young people have started to listen, claiming they’ve been cheated, claiming their education will get them nowhere, claiming they’ll never find success of the same caliber as that of their parents and grandparents.
These kids blame the system, they blame the government, they blame the circumstances, and they adhere to just one mindset: pessimism.
I’ve learned that I live by a much different state of mind.
I’ve learned that I believe in the time-tested ability of motivated people to be better than their circumstances.
I have learned that I will not be one of those kids and I will be much more than a child of “generation screwed.”
