Some people say that we’re “generation screwed.”

Some say that we face insurmountable hurdles, left behind as the price of our parent’s prosperity.

Some young people have started to listen, claiming they’ve been cheated, claiming their education will get them nowhere, claiming they’ll never find success of the same caliber as that of their parents and grandparents.

These kids blame the system, they blame the government, they blame the circumstances, and they adhere to just one mindset: pessimism.

I’ve learned that I live by a much different state of mind.

I’ve learned that I believe in the time-tested ability of motivated people to be better than their circumstances.

I have learned that I will not be one of those kids and I will be much more than a child of “generation screwed.”

I’ve learned that it’s really hard to explain who you’ve become over the course of a year to people who didn’t go through it with you. There are certain things you just “get” about each other after you face the world together and come out in one piece on the other side.
